What is COVID-19?

How it Spreads:

COVID-19 primarily spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It is also possible for the virus to spread through physical interactions, such as handshakes or hugs.

High-Risk Individuals

While anyone is susceptible to infection, certain individuals face a higher risk of contracting COVID – and suffering serious outcomes. High-risk patients include those with compromised immune systems, those with heart and/or lung disease, and adults over 60 years of age.

Who is Able to Receive a COVID-19 Test?

What Type of Covid-19 Tests are Offered at Nasoncare?

Rapid Test

Results (Wait Time): 15 minutes

Rapid tests, also known as antigen tests, are best used in detecting the COVID virus in those currently experiencing symptoms. The short wait time for results makes rapid testing an effective method of decreasing the spread of COVID through contact tracing.

PCR Test

Results (Wait Time): 1-3 days Depending On Lab Processing Time

PCR tests, the simplified name for polymerase chain reaction tests, detect the COVID virus’s genetic material in the body. While these tests are widely considered the most accurate, their results take longer to obtain. PCR testing is especially effective for patients without symptoms.
